Netflix pays $500 million to secure The Walking Dead franchise rights for five years

Netflix has agreed to pay $500 million to AMC Global Media for a five‑year, co‑exclusive licence covering the entire The Walking Dead universe. The deal includes the original series (11 seasons) and six spin‑off titles – Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Dead City, The Ones Who Live, World Beyond and Tales of The Walking Dead – a total of 371 episodes. Under the agreement the shows will be available on Netflix in the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and other markets, while AMC+ will also be able to stream the content.

Lori Conkling, Vice President of Licensing at Netflix, said the partnership will bring the franchise to “more fans around the world,” and AMC chief Kristin Dolan called the deal a “global home for the entire universe.” The arrangement expands Netflix’s horror‑drama catalogue and strengthens AMC’s streaming presence through the co‑exclusive model.
