Netflix reboots ‘A Different World’ with new cast and original stars

Netflix has released a reboot of the classic sitcom ‘A Different World’, a ten-episode series set on the campus of Hillman College. The production blends comedy and drama, featuring a new generation of students alongside returning original cast members, including Jasmine Guy as Whitley Gilbert and Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne Wayne.

The new ensemble includes characters such as Deborah Wayne, the daughter of the original protagonists, played by Maleah Joi Moon; Rashida Duvall, played by Alijah Kai; and Amir Rodale, played by Jordan Aaron Hall. The series aims to reflect contemporary Black life and the realities of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including themes such as the student housing crisis.

Musical elements play a significant role in the revival. R&B artist Devon Culture performs the original song ‘A Time More Perfect’ in the premiere episode, a selection made by Debbie Allen. Additionally, the classic theme song has been remixed by singer Brandy.
