Netflix has released the Japanese animated feature film "L'Héroïne au ruban" (The Ribbon Heroine) as a global exclusive. The film, directed by Yuki Igarashi and produced by Studio OUTLINE, is a modern reinterpretation of "Princess Sapphire," a foundational manga created by Osamu Tezuka in the 1950s.

Tezuka's original work is credited with pioneering the female action heroine in manga and is considered a precursor to the "magical girl" genre. The new film follows Sapphire, the princess of the destroyed kingdom of Silverland, as she seeks refuge in Goldland. When the destructive force Nergal returns to threaten her new home, Sapphire must choose between retreating or fighting once more.

The film explores themes of grief, identity reconstruction, and the courage required to protect others after experiencing profound loss.
