Netflix releases Below, a Canadian horror-thriller series

The new Netflix miniseries ‘Below’ is a six-episode production set in the remote fishing community of Snook’s Arm on Newfoundland, Canada. The story follows Calvin Penney, played by Josh Hartnett, a widower struggling to maintain his livelihood amidst economic hardship and a potential community relocation vote.

The plot centers on a mysterious marine creature that emerges from the ocean, threatening the inhabitants and mirroring a traumatic event from Penney’s past involving his father’s death. As brutal attacks occur alongside the approach of a massive iceberg, Penney teams up with marine researcher Fonda Howander to uncover the truth behind the creature. The series blends elements of eco-horror and traditional thriller, exploring themes of environmentalism, family secrets, and the preservation of local identity.
