Netflix releases documentary on Argentine serial killer Yiya Murano
Netflix has released a new documentary titled ‘Yiya Murano: Muerte a la hora del té’, which examines the criminal case of María Bernardina ‘Yiya’ Murano. Known as the ‘Envenenadora de Monserrat’, Murano was an Argentine socialite who became the country’s first known female serial killer during the 1970s.
Murano poisoned three of her close friends with cyanide during tea services to avoid repaying debts incurred through an informal lending network. Following her arrest and a decade-long prison sentence, Murano became a bizarre pop-culture figure in Argentina through various television appearances and fictional adaptations.
