Netflix releases ‘Lovesick’ historical drama based on Ángeles Mastretta novel

The Netflix historical romance drama series ‘Lovesick’ (based on the novel ‘Mal de amores’) has premiered. Directed, produced, and adapted by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, the series is based on the 1996 novel by her mother, Ángeles Mastretta.

Set in Puebla, Mexico, during the early days of the Mexican Revolution, the story follows Emilia Sauri. As one of the first female doctors in Mexico, Emilia defies societal expectations to pursue her vocation. The narrative explores her personal struggles for freedom and identity amidst a changing nation, framed by a romantic triangle involving Daniel Cuenca, a revolutionary, and Antonio Zavalza, a physician.
