Netflix releases ‘East of Eden’ miniseries by Zoe Kazan

Netflix has released a seven-episode miniseries adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel, ‘East of Eden’. The project is a family endeavor, created by Zoe Kazan, who serves as writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer. Kazan is the granddaughter of Elia Kazan, the director of the famous 1955 film adaptation starring James Dean.

Unlike the previous film adaptation which focused primarily on the latter part of the book, this series covers the saga in its full breadth. Spanning from the end of the American Civil War to World War I, the narrative follows two generations of the Trask family. The story explores themes of jealousy and hereditary curses through the relationship between brothers Adam and Charles, and later, their sons Cal and Aron, all set against the backdrop of a changing America.
