Netflix renews Formula 1: Drive to Survive for ninth season
Netflix has officially confirmed that its Formula 1 documentary series, ‘Drive to Survive’, will return for a ninth season. The upcoming season is set to focus on the competition throughout the 2026 season.
Produced by Box to Box, the series has been a staple on the streaming platform since its debut in 2019. It provides viewers with exclusive access to the F1 paddock and insights into the personal lives of drivers outside of racing. Executive producers James Gay-Rees and Paul Martin stated that the new season will aim to explore the ‘hidden spaces’ of the sport more deeply than previous installments.
While the series has faced criticism regarding its creative editing and tendency toward reality-TV style drama, it is credited with significantly expanding Formula 1’s global popularity. Specifically, the show has been noted for growing the sport's fanbase in the United States and attracting a younger demographic with a higher proportion of female viewers.
