Netflix replaces Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria with Peter Rice
Netflix has announced a major leadership change, replacing Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria with former Disney and Fox executive Peter Rice. Rice, who will officially assume his new role on October 26, will oversee the company’s global content organization, including scripted and unscripted series, films, and live events.
The leadership shuffle coincides with a significant restructuring at the streaming giant. Netflix has implemented a workforce reduction affecting approximately 6% of its global staff, totaling about 1,000 positions. These layoffs span various departments, including product, technology, legal, and human resources.
This reorganization comes as Netflix faces increased competition from platforms like Disney+, HBO Max, and Amazon, alongside pressure from investors to improve engagement and stock performance. Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters indicated that the changes are intended to optimize resource allocation and elevate the quality of the company’s content offerings.
