Netflix deploys AI in 300 titles and buys Ben Affleck's InterPositive for $587 million

Netflix disclosed that generative AI tools were used in roughly 300 of its movies and series during 2026, chiefly in post‑production to create crowds, battle scenes and other complex visuals more quickly and at lower cost. Co‑CEO Ted Sarandos said the technology acts as a creative assistant, allowing productions such as "Glory", "Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri" and the documentary series "The American Experiment" to keep key shots that would otherwise have been omitted.

In the same quarter the streamer confirmed a cash purchase of Ben Affleck’s AI startup InterPositive for $587 million (about €540 million). The deal adds a 16‑person engineering team and places Affleck in an advisory role. Netflix expects the acquisition to deepen its in‑house AI capabilities for visual effects, virtual production and advertising, supporting its goal of generating about $3 billion in ad revenue in 2026. The company reported Q2 revenue of $12.56 billion, up 13 % year‑on‑year, with net income of $3.4 billion.
