Netflix reveals trailer for ‘Contra el huracán’ inspired by Hurricane Otis

Netflix has released the first trailer for ‘Contra el huracán’, a Mexican film directed by Jorge Michel Grau. The production is a survival drama inspired by the real-life events of Hurricane Otis, which struck the coast of Acapulco in October 2023.

The story follows two estranged half-brothers, Wirpul (played by Benny Emmanuel) and Candi (played by Kristyan Ferrer). Wirpul, a young man working on a private yacht, finds himself trapped at sea when a tropical storm rapidly intensifies into a Category 5 hurricane. The narrative focuses on the brothers' struggle to survive and their need to trust one another amidst the extreme weather conditions.

The film features a cast including Mónica del Carmen, Mónica Jiménez, Gonzalo Vega, and Andrew Leland. ‘Contra el huracán’ is scheduled for an exclusive worldwide release on Netflix on Wednesday, October 23, 2026.
