Netflix seeks FIFA World Cup broadcasting rights for 2030 and 2034

Netflix is pursuing broadcasting rights for the FIFA men's World Cup, specifically targeting the 2030 and 2034 tournaments in the United States. Netflix executive Bela Bajaria confirmed the company's intent to remain part of discussions for major sporting properties, noting a strong existing relationship with FIFA through the company's current rights to the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cups.

Competition for these rights is expected to be intense. Major bidders include Disney (via ESPN), YouTube, and Fox. Other potential entrants include Amazon and Apple. Industry estimates suggest that media companies may budget between $1.5 billion and $2 billion for the U.S. rights to each tournament.

The 2030 World Cup is set to be a centennial celebration hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, with additional matches held in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. The 2034 tournament is slated to take place in Saudi Arabia. FIFA may also consider bundling English and Spanish-language rights into a single package for future deals.
