Netflix sees 250% surge in football content views during FIFA 2026 World Cup
Netflix reported that weekly views of its football‑related titles more than doubled – over a 250 % increase – during the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026. The spike covered documentaries such as *Brazil ’70: The Third Star*, *México 86*, *James* and *Norway: The Dark Horse*, the talk show *The Rest Is Football* hosted by Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, and the official *FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition* video game. In Brazil, views of the *Ronaldinho: The One and Only* documentary rose 34 % after the player’s halftime appearance, while *Norway: The Dark Horse* topped Norway’s charts and remained in the Top 10 throughout the tournament. The game became the most‑played title on Netflix, with gameplay staying more than 40 % above normal after the final; Brazil was the most‑selected team, followed by Mexico and Argentina.
Looking ahead, Netflix announced it will stream the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in the United States and Canada from 24 June to 25 July 2027, investing roughly $200 million for the rights to both the 2026 men’s and 2027 women’s editions. The platform expects the upcoming tournament to extend the football‑content momentum and has already renewed *The Rest Is Football* for the 2026‑27 Premier League season.
