Netflix sees success with Nordic crime adaptations
Netflix has seen significant success with new Nordic crime content. The platform has released a new adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole saga, with the first season based on the novel ‘The Devil’s Star’. The series features Tobias Santelmann as Harry Hole and Joel Kinnaman as the corrupt police officer Tom Waaler. Unlike previous attempts to adapt Nesbø’s work, this series is overseen by the author himself as creator, writer, and showrunner.
Additionally, the Danish thriller ‘The Secret Woman’ (La Femme secrète), directed by Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg, has become a global hit. Based on a novel by Anna Ekberg, the film reached number one in the non-English film category on Netflix, accumulating 19.3 million views in a single week. The plot follows a woman with amnesia who discovers her true identity is linked to a disappearance in Denmark three years prior.
