Netflix reveals trailer for Newfoundland-set thriller ‘Below’

Netflix has released a trailer and official poster for ‘Below’, a six-episode limited thriller series set in Newfoundland. The series, created by Jesse McKeown, is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before its official Netflix release on October 8, 2026.

Starring Josh Hartnett as Calvin Penney, a stubborn fisherman, the plot follows his struggle to protect his community and family from an unidentified sea creature terrorizing the town of Snook’s Arm. The story also explores themes of climate change, the loss of local fishing livelihoods, and family displacement. Hartnett is joined by a cast including Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, and Ruby Stokes.

The series is described as a blend of North Atlantic noir, local mythology, and suspense, drawing stylistic comparisons to the works of Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter.
