Netflix series 'Fading Grandeur' reaches top spot in Spain

The Spanish comedy series 'Fading Grandeur' (originally titled 'Grande de España') has become the most-watched show on Netflix in Spain following its release on October 23. The six-part series follows Leandro, a penniless aristocrat attempting to maintain his social status by selling his crumbling family mansion in Madrid.

The plot centers on a series of deceptions involving Leandro and Sofia Carrington, a woman who appears to be an oil tycoon but is actually a single mother working at a dry cleaner. As Leandro attempts to secure a deposit to fund his daughter Martina's wedding, the two characters navigate a web of lies and unexpected chemistry.

Critical reception has been divided. Some reviewers have praised the series for its direct pacing and the performances of lead actors Antonio de la Torre and Alexandra Jiménez, with some comparing its style to the works of filmmaker Luis García Berlanga. Other critics have described it as a comedy seeking easy laughs without deeper messages, while some viewers have found the pacing slow.
