Netflix series Fauda returns with fifth season addressing October 7 trauma

The Netflix series Fauda has returned for an unexpected fifth season, which addresses the trauma of the October 7 attacks on Israel. Co-created by Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, the series follows a fictional Israeli counter-terrorism unit known as the Mista’aravim.

Set two years after the October 7 events, the new season depicts a grim atmosphere of grief and revenge. The plot follows protagonist Doron Kabilio and his comrade Eli as they track a criminal believed to have murdered Eli’s family. The narrative leads the characters from Israel to Marseille, France, where they attempt to locate the killer while maintaining undercover identities.

Lior Raz, who also stars in the series, noted that the writing process was driven by personal and collective trauma, beginning while hostages were still being held in Gaza. The season explores themes of retribution and the complexities of intelligence operations in the wake of the conflict.
