Netflix sued for $105M over lost Nicolas Cage film

Netflix is facing a $105 million lawsuit in a California federal court following the disappearance of a hard drive containing the unreleased film "Fortitude," starring Nicolas Cage and Ben Kingsley.

Producer Simon Afram and his company, Op-Fortitude, allege that the theft of the unencrypted Digital Cinema Package (DCP) has compromised the film's exclusivity and commercial value. The producer claims the file was delivered to Netflix on June 16 with specific instructions to delete it after an internal screening, but Netflix reportedly informed the crew of the loss ten days later after a theft occurred at their offices.

Netflix has denied liability, stating that providing an unencrypted copy did not meet industry standards and characterizing the lawsuit as an attempt at extortion. While the company is monitoring piracy websites for the footage, it has indicated it will not be held responsible for the theft.
