Netflix sued over theft of unreleased Nicolas Cage film “Fortitude”

Producer Simon Afram and his company Op‑Fortitude have filed a federal lawsuit in California alleging that Netflix negligently handled an unencrypted Digital Cinema Package (DCP) of the unreleased World War II thriller “Fortitude,” starring Nicolas Cage. The DCP was delivered to Netflix for an internal screening, but hard drives containing the copy were stolen from Netflix’s Hollywood headquarters in Los Angeles. The plaintiffs claim the loss threatens the film’s commercial value and seek $105 million in damages, arguing that Netflix failed to protect the confidential material. Netflix says it promptly notified its internal security team and the film’s producers after discovering the missing DCP and denies liability. The case has raised concerns in the film community about security practices at major streaming platforms.
