Netflix Taiwan launches horror series 'Smart Town' starring local actors

Netflix Taiwan released the ten‑episode horror series “Smart Town” on July 28, adapting Japanese manga creator Junji Ito’s work and depicting the pressures of an elite school system. The cast includes Liang Yongqi, Chen Yanfei, Yu Jie‑en, Zheng Wei‑Ling, Xu Xiu‑fu and others, with Zheng playing the “Taiwanese Fujimi” character.

Actress Zheng Wei‑Ling discussed her background in a recent interview, noting she was an average student, later pursued modeling, and entered acting through a student film. She shared personal details, saying she is currently single and prefers partners who don’t smoke and can cook.

Television host Dee Hsu (小S) promoted her daughter Elly’s debut in the series, posting the show’s poster on Instagram and replying humorously to fans who said the newcomer actress performed better than her. Elly appears as the “slug‑girl” in the drama, and the mother‑daughter duo attended the Taipei Film Festival premiere together.
