Netflix to adapt Cristina Rivera Garza’s book into documentary

Netflix has announced a documentary adaptation of ‘El invencible verano de Liliana’, based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cristina Rivera Garza. The documentary will explore the life and murder of the author’s sister, Liliana Rivera Garza.

The production aims to reconstruct Liliana’s memory through her diaries, letters, and testimonies, while highlighting the systemic violence against women and the difficult search for justice faced by victims' families. The announcement was made as part of Netflix’s coverage for Mexican Cinema Day.
