Netflix to adapt Roald Dahl's adult short stories into drama series
Netflix is developing a new six-episode drama series based on the adult short stories of Roald Dahl. Written by Danny Brocklehurst, the project aims to capture the macabre and grotesque tone characteristic of Dahl’s darker works.
The untitled series follows a young couple stuck in a decaying seaside resort, where their attempts to escape lead to encounters with scammers, adulterers, and murderous mothers. Production is currently underway in Manchester, United Kingdom.
This project is part of Netflix’s broader strategy to exploit the Roald Dahl catalog following its £500 million acquisition of the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021. Previous adaptations include ‘Matilda the Musical’ and Wes Anderson’s short films. Other upcoming projects include an animated ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ film slated for 2027 and a reality competition titled ‘Wonka’s The Golden Ticket’.
