Netflix to debut Mexican film “La captura” on El Chapo’s 2016 capture

Netflix will release the Mexican thriller “La captura” on 21 August. Directed by Chava Cartas, the film stars Alfonso Herrera and Noé Hernández as federal officers Arturo Carmona and Héctor Rosales, who encounter Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán during a routine patrol near Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and must decide whether to accept a million‑dollar bribe or complete the arrest. The story is based on the real 2016 operation known as “Operación Cisne Negro” that ended the cartel leader’s second escape.

The trailer, released 23 July, shows Hector Kotsifakis portraying El Chapo, Juan Pablo Cruz García as the security chief “El Cholo”, and Paola Fernández as Isaura Carmona. The film follows the two officers as they confront the world’s most wanted drug lord, reflecting Netflix’s growing focus on Mexican crime‑organised‑crime narratives.
