Netflix to develop Dungeons & Dragons series Ravenloft

Netflix is developing a live-action prestige fantasy series titled ‘Ravenloft’, based on the gothic horror setting of the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The project is a collaboration with Hasbro Entertainment and will be led by writer and executive producer John August, alongside executive producer Alfonso Cuarón.

The series will focus on the origin story of the vampire Darklord Strahd von Zarovich, tracing his transformation from a tragic antihero into a notorious undead tyrant through themes of power, love, and obsession. The setting, originally introduced in 1983 by Tracy and Laura Hickman, has a vast history of novels, video games, and role-playing modules.

This development comes as Netflix shifts its Dungeons & Dragons television strategy; while ‘Ravenloft’ moves forward, a previously announced live-action series titled ‘The Forgotten Realms’ is no longer proceeding at the streamer.
