Netflix to end support for older smart TVs and remove series

Netflix is implementing technical changes that will affect service availability for older hardware and content availability for specific titles.

Starting September 10, 2026, the streaming platform will cease operations on various smart TVs and media players that lack updated operating support. This disruption is driven by necessary updates to digital rights management (DRM) protocols, such as Widevine L1 and HDCP 2.2, which older processors manufactured before 2016 cannot support. Affected brands include Samsung models using Orsay OS, certain LG webOS versions, Sony Bravia series running proprietary Linux systems, and older Panasonic VIERA models. Additionally, first, second, and third-generation Apple TV media players will lose access.

Separately, the series ‘The Good Place’ is scheduled to be removed from Netflix on September 25. Although labeled a Netflix original, the series' underlying rights belong to NBC and Universal Television. Following its removal from Netflix, the show is expected to debut on the SkyShowtime streaming platform.
