Netflix begins filming 'La Regenta' starring Ester Expósito
Netflix has announced the start of production for a new film adaptation of 'La Regenta', the classic Spanish novel by Leopoldo Alas, known as Clarín. The project features Ester Expósito, known for 'Élite', in the lead role of Ana Ozores.
Directed by Mar Coll, the film aims to provide a contemporary reinterpretation of the 19th-century work through an explicitly female lens. The screenplay is co-written by Coll, Anna R. Costa, and Diego Vega. The story follows Ana Ozores as she navigates a hollow marriage in the suffocating social environment of Vetusta, eventually becoming the center of conflicting obsessions involving faith and social power.
The production is led by María Zamora of Elastica Films, marking the company's first collaboration with Netflix. The ensemble cast includes Oriol Pla as Fermín de Pas, Vito Sanz as Víctor Quintanar, Borja Luna as Álvaro Mesía, and Ana Torrent as Doña Paula.
