Netflix to adapt Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s “Feliz Ano Velho” into series
Netflix announced at the 24th Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty (Flip) that it will produce a series adaptation of Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s autobiographical novel “Feliz Ano Velho” (also released internationally as “Happy Old Year”). The project will be co‑produced by Brazilian companies Amaia and O2 Filmes. Paiva expressed enthusiasm, describing the adaptation as another “marriage between Brazilian literature and audiovisual art.” The series is planned to be set in the 1980s while translating the story for contemporary audiences; no filming start date, cast or release window has been disclosed. The move follows Netflix’s broader strategy of turning literary classics into streaming content, adding to its growing catalog of Brazil‑originated series.
