Netflix to launch series adaptation of Marcelo Rubens Paiva's 'Feliz Ano Velho

Netflix announced that it will adapt the Brazilian classic "Feliz Ano Velho" into a streaming series. The project was revealed during the 24th Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty (Flip), where Netflix is a sponsor.

"Feliz Ano Velho" is Marcelo Rubens Paiva's 1982 autobiographical novel recounting the accident that left him tetraplegic at age 20. The book has become a cultural touchstone in Brazil for its candid, humorous tone and its exploration of youth and resilience.

Production will be handled by Amaia and O2 Filmes. Haná Vaisman, Netflix’s director of fiction series, said the series aims to preserve the emotional core and universal themes of the original work. The author and producers expressed enthusiasm for bringing the story to a new generation.

Filming has not yet begun, and no premiere date has been announced.
