Netflix to premiere ‘Habeas Corpus’, its first Brazilian legal drama

Netflix is set to release ‘Habeas Corpus’ on September 23, marking the streaming platform’s first legal drama produced in Brazil. The series follows a law professor and a brilliant student as they work to reopen a case involving a man who was unjustly imprisoned.

Inspired by real cases and the work of the Innocence Project Brasil, the production explores the complexities and inequalities of the Brazilian judicial system. The plot centers on Inez, a law professor played by Marjorie Estiano, and Marina, a student portrayed by Any Gabrielly. While Inez seeks to rectify a past judicial error, Marina is driven by a personal desire to correct an injustice that affected her own family.

The series was previewed at the Pinacoteca in São Paulo, where cast members and press attended an initial screening. The production is directed by Luiz Villaça, alongside Flávia Lacerda, and was created by Villaça, Leonardo Moreira, and Donna Oliveira.
