Netflix to reboot ‘A Different World’ series at Hillman College

Netflix will premiere a ten-episode reboot of the comedy series ‘A Different World’ on September 24. The new series returns to the fictional Hillman College and follows Deborah Wayne, the daughter of original characters Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, as she navigates her freshman year.

Original cast members, including Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy, are set to return alongside alumni such as Darryl M. Bell and Dawnn Lewis. Debbie Allen, the original series director, is returning as executive director and will direct the premiere episode.

The original series, a spinoff of ‘The Cosby Show’ that aired from 1987 to 1993, was noted for its impact on the visibility of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
