Netflix to release ‘East of Eden’ miniseries starring Florence Pugh

Netflix is set to release a new seven-episode miniseries adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel ‘East of Eden’ on October 1. The production is created and executive produced by Zoe Kazan, the granddaughter of Elia Kazan, who directed the 1955 film adaptation.

Unlike the previous film, which focused on the final quarter of the novel, this series aims to cover the entire story, spanning from the American Civil War to the early years of World War I. The plot follows the Trask and Hamilton families, focusing heavily on the character Cathy Ames, played by Florence Pugh. Pugh, who also serves as a producer, intends to explore the humanity and tenderness behind the character, who is traditionally depicted as a villain.

The cast includes Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, and supporting actors such as Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, and Ciarán Hinds. The series is directed by Garth Davis and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre.
