Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán: Unreleased videos reveal details of 2016 capture

New unreleased video footage has surfaced documenting the final capture of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, on January 8, 2016. The recordings, revealed by journalist Héctor de Mauleón and published by El Universal, provide a detailed look at the moments following his arrest after he escaped through a drainage system.

The footage shows Guzmán at the Hotel & Suites Doux, where he was temporarily held for security while waiting for federal reinforcements. In the videos, Guzmán is seen washing mud from his face and engaging in dialogue with authorities. He explicitly stated that he had instructed his organization and family not to engage in warfare with the government, saying, ‘I don't want people fighting with the government... there will be no war, nothing at all.’

Guzmán also addressed his criminal activities in the recordings, admitting to drug trafficking while denying involvement in theft. The material also captures his transport to Mexico City, where he appeared subdued.

Separately, investigative files have revealed that the Sinaloa Cartel has been operating with a corporate-style multinational structure, with plans to expand fentanyl production and markets into regions including Israel, Jordan, and New Zealand.
