Netflix to release Mexican series ‘Mal de amores’ in September 2026

Netflix will release ‘Mal de amores’ on September 2, 2026. The seven-episode Mexican series is an adaptation of the novel by Ángeles Mastretta, which won the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize in 1997.

Set during the Mexican Revolution, the story follows Emilia Sauri, played by Renata Vaca. Emilia is a young woman striving to study medicine despite the social restrictions placed on women during that era. Her personal journey is intertwined with the country's political shifts and a romantic conflict between two men: Daniel Cuenca (Juan Pablo Fuentes), a revolutionary adventurer, and Antonio Zavalza (Iván Amozurrutia), a doctor seeking peace amidst the conflict.

The adaptation is directed, produced, and co-written by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, the daughter of the original author.
