Michael Schumacher documentary explores 1994 F1 title and controversies

Netflix is set to release a new documentary, ‘Schumacher 94: The Birth of a Legend’, on October 2. The film focuses on the 1994 Formula 1 season, the year Michael Schumacher won his first world championship with Benetton.

The documentary explores the intense and turbulent nature of that year, which included the tragic deaths of drivers Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger at the Imola Grand Prix. It also revisits technical controversies, specifically allegations that the Benetton team used illegal traction control software, a suspicion fueled by observations from Senna himself.

Corinna Schumacher, Michael’s wife, provides personal insights and emotional reflections on their relationship during that era. While the film does not address Schumacher’s current health status following his 2013 skiing accident, it uses archival footage and interviews to reconstruct the rise of the German driver and the high-stakes battle for the title against Damon Hill.
