Netflix releases ‘La Captura’ about El Chapo’s arrest

Netflix has released the Mexican action thriller ‘La Captura’ (internationally titled ‘Facing El Chapo’), directed by Chava Cartas. The film is a dramatized account of the real-life 2016 arrest of Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.

Unlike traditional biopics that focus on the criminal, this narrative centers on two Federal police officers, Arturo Carmona and Héctor Rosales, portrayed by Alfonso Herrera and Noé Hernández. The story follows the officers after they intercept a stolen vehicle and discover Guzmán inside, leading to a psychological confrontation involving massive bribes and death threats.

The production is based on journalistic accounts by Héctor de Mauleón and aims to portray the human reality and moral dilemmas faced by law enforcement rather than romanticizing organized crime.
