Netflix to stream La Bola Negra, a potential Oscar contender

The historical drama ‘La Bola Negra’ (The Black Ball), directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, is set to arrive on Netflix on November 2. The film, which has garnered significant acclaim at various festivals, is positioned as a potential competitor to Christopher Nolan’s ‘Odyssey’ for the Best Picture Oscar.

Inspired by the world of Federico García Lorca, the narrative explores themes of oppression, memory, and sexual identity in Spain across three distinct eras: 1937 during the Spanish Civil War, 1932, and 2017. The film features a cast including Álvaro Lafuente Calvo, Carlos González, Lola Dueñas, Glenn Close, and Penélope Cruz.

While the film is already appearing in cinemas in certain countries, it is expected to reach Greek theaters in early November.
