Netflix unveils extensive anime slate featuring The Ribbon Hero, One Piece remake and Blue Eye Samurai sequel
At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival Netflix presented its upcoming animation lineup, unveiling new projects across several series and films.
The streamer released the first trailer for **The Ribbon Hero**, an anime film inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s *Princess Knight*. It is set for worldwide release on 8 August 2026, directed by Yuki Igarashi, with the theme song “Reborn” by Girls Archives. Cast members include Seiran Kobayashi, Kōki Uchiyama and Mayumi Shintani.
Netflix also previewed a new adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s *One Piece* by WIT Studio, scheduled to debut on Netflix in February 2026, and showed a teaser for **Blue Eye Samurai** season 2, which follows protagonist Mizu on a journey to London; a release date was not announced.
Additional announcements included the anime series **Fool Night** (produced by Sunrise and Shaft) set in a future where humanity uses “Transfloral” technology, the Kyoto Animation series **Sparks of Tomorrow**, and the steampunk western **Bass X Machina**. Netflix noted that its anime titles generated more than 1.5 billion global views in 2025.
