Netflix unveils trailer for Brad Bird's Ray Gunn

Netflix has released the first trailer for Ray Gunn, an original science-fiction noir animated film directed by Brad Bird. The film marks Bird’s first original animated project in 19 years.

Set in the Art Deco metropolis of Metropia, the story follows Raymond Gunn (voiced by Sam Rockwell), a hardboiled private detective investigating a case involving murder and extraterrestrials. The plot intersects with Venus Nova (voiced by Scarlett Johansson), a multimedia star at the center of a complex mystery. The voice cast also features Tom Waits as Gunn’s alien partner, Eyera, alongside Patton Oswalt and John Ratzenberger.

Director Brad Bird describes the film’s aesthetic as “The Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers.” The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on December 4, 2026, followed by its streaming debut on Netflix on December 18, 2026.
