Netflix unveils trailer for Spanish queer epic La Bola Negra

Netflix has released the teaser trailer and key art for ‘La Bola Negra’ (The Black Ball), a Spanish-language epic directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, known as ‘Los Javis’. The film, which has garnered critical praise at Cannes, explores queer identity and memory across three generations of men.

The narrative is inspired by the life and work of the poet and playwright Federico García Lorca. One segment of the story is set in 1932, following a young man named Carlos who is excluded from his family’s casino due to suspected homosexuality. Another part unfolds during the Spanish Civil War in 1937, involving a trumpet player named Sebastián and a prisoner named Rafael, a character based on the real-life footballer and Lorca companion Rafael Rodríguez Rapún.

The film features an international ensemble cast including Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, Miguel Bernardeau, and musician Guitarricadelafuente, who makes his acting debut. ‘La Bola Negra’ is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
