Netflix launches global reboot of 'Little House on the Prairie' on July 9

Netflix will debut a new eight‑episode adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, titled “Little House on the Prairie,” on Thursday 9 July 2026. The series drops worldwide on the streaming platform and follows the Ingalls family as they settle on the Kansas prairie, the setting of the third Wilder novel. Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for “The Boys,” serves as showrunner and executive producer.

The cast features Alice Halsey as Laura, Luke Bracey as Charles, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary. Filming took place in Winnipeg, and the production has secured a second season before the first episode has aired. A notable aspect of the reboot is its inclusion of the Osage perspective; cultural consultants such as Julie O’Keefe, Robert Warrior and Talee Redcorn were hired to ensure authentic Indigenous representation. Canadian Ojibwe actor Meegwun Fairbrother, who plays Osage farmer William Mitchell, said the series “avoids the history of erasure of Indigenous peoples in North America.”

The series aims to stay closer to Wilder’s original narratives than the 1970s TV version, depicting the hardships of frontier life, disease, wolves and land‑treaty conflicts. The global launch follows a coordinated promotional push, with trailers released in multiple languages across Italy, Spain, Argentina, Poland and other markets.
