Netflix's Little House on the Prairie series filmed in Manitoba, Canada

Netflix’s new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie was shot entirely in Manitoba, Canada, primarily around Winnipeg. Showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine consulted a wide range of historical sources and worked with Osage cultural consultant Julie O’Keefe to portray the Osage Nation accurately. The production, which ran from June to October, used real prairie locations to capture the expansive landscape described in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novels. The series aims to broaden the original story by incorporating the perspectives of the indigenous peoples whose lands were settled during the period.

The show’s emphasis on the Osage tribe highlights historical settlement dynamics, reflecting a more nuanced depiction of 19th‑century American frontier life.
