Netflix's 'Michael Jackson: The Verdict' docuseries spotlights abuse allegations, challenging new biopic

Netflix has released the three‑part docuseries "Michael Jackson: El veredicto" (The Verdict). The series concentrates on the 2005 criminal trial in which the pop star was accused of abusing a minor, Gavin Arvizo, and offers a forensic look at the case that ended with Jackson’s acquittal on all ten charges. It places the abuse allegations at the forefront, contrasting sharply with Antoine Fuqua’s recent biopic "Michael," which focused on Jackson’s rise and musical legacy and omitted the scandal after legal restrictions.

The docuseries debuted on Netflix the same week the biopic broke box‑office records, earning $217 million worldwide. Its creators, Nick Green and David Herman, say “the controversy is still alive” and aim to provide a balanced view of the legal proceedings that shaped public perception of the artist. The series also references earlier accusations from 1993 and the later documentary "Leaving Neverland," which revived debate over Jackson’s legacy.
