Polish series “1670” season 3 blends 17th‑century drama with historic filming sites

The third season of the Polish television series 1670 continues its satirical take on the late‑Rzeczpospolita, following characters such as Jan and the king Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki as they move from the fictional village of Adamczycha to a dramatized Warsaw. The storyline is set in the year 1670 and uses the period’s political intrigue and social customs as a backdrop for comedy.

Production for season 3 was shot at three historic sites in Silesia – the Piast Castle in Brzeg, the Cistercian Abbey in Lubiąż and the Castle in Roztoka – which stand in for the capital’s courtyards, chambers and throne room. These locations provide authentic Renaissance and Baroque interiors that depict the royal court and its advisers, including the Radziwiłł family.

The series has been praised for its sharp satire of Polish noble excesses and for bringing lesser‑known historical locations to a wider audience.
