Netherlands advances renewable energy through geothermal funding and energy hubs

Significant investments are advancing renewable energy infrastructure in the Netherlands. A €200 million financing framework provided by ING and Rabobank to 85 Degrees Renewable will facilitate the next phase of geothermal development in Central Eastland. This funding supports the creation of new geothermal sources, the expansion of heat infrastructure, and the sustainability of regional greenhouse horticulture.

In North Limburg, a €400,000 subsidy from the Regio Deal Noord-Limburg II has been awarded to support the development of energy hubs. The project aims to address grid congestion and improve local energy efficiency through the realization of hubs at Egchelse Heide and Smakterheide. These hubs will utilize technologies such as cable pooling, collective battery storage, and Energy Management Systems (EMS) to integrate wind and solar power with local businesses.

Collaborative efforts involving Gaia Energy, Foresight, and various educational institutions like Fontys Hogeschool and HAS green academy are driving these transitions. These initiatives focus on building scalable, integrated heat and electricity systems to ensure a future-proof energy landscape for Dutch industry and agriculture.
