Netherlands advances sustainable senior housing and senior living outreach

Villa de Zwette, a new residential complex for seniors with dementia near Sneek, earned the BREEAM‑NL Very Good certification in 2025 thanks to design choices such as heat‑pumps, solar panels, high‑performance insulation and extensive use of prefabricated components. The project was delivered by developer Thuismakers for care provider Bloezem, with Jorritsma Bouw as the main contractor and sustainability guidance from Adamas.

In parallel, the municipality of Rheden hosted two public meetings in Dieren and Velp to inform residents about housing options for later life. Organized by Incluzio Rheden and real‑estate firm IJsselhuys Makelaars, the sessions covered practical and emotional aspects of moving, promoting early planning for safe, independent senior living.

Both initiatives reflect growing attention in the Netherlands to combine sustainability, accessibility and proactive planning in senior housing.
