Netherlands' Amersfoort and Arnhem roll out subsidies and charging aid for electric vehicles

The municipality of Amersfoort will offer a subsidy of up to €1,200 for residents who exchange old gasoline‑powered scooters for new or second‑hand electric models. Eligible applicants must live in Amersfoort, have an income up to 150 % of the social assistance norm and purchase the replacement scooter from an RDW‑approved dealer. The scheme runs from 14 July to 31 December 2026 with a total budget of €132,000.

In Arnhem, officials are highlighting the cost advantage of home charging electric cars, noting that owners with private chargers pay roughly half the electricity cost of those relying on public stations. To address safety concerns from ad‑hoc sidewalk charging cables, the city has approved a pilot installing twenty protected cable ducts in the Burgemeesterswijk district after resident lobbying. The initiative aims to provide a safer, permanent solution for neighbourhood home‑charging.
