Netherlands cabinet approves plan to reform cultural system
The Dutch cabinet has approved a plan to reform the national cultural system, proposed by Minister Letschert of Education, Culture and Science. The initiative aims to make the system more accessible, simpler, and future-proof.
Key objectives include improving cultural access for residents in both urban and regional areas through enhanced cooperation between municipalities, provinces, and the national government. To address the complexity of the current subsidy system, the plan includes simplifying procedures and a legislative change to extend the maximum subsidy term to eight years, providing greater stability for cultural institutions. The plan also focuses on modernizing national cultural funds to better meet the needs of creators and the public.
