Netherlands coach Koeman confirms squad as World Cup looms
Ahead of the 2026 World Cup opener against Japan on June 14 in Dallas, Dutch coach Ronald Koeman said he has settled on his starting lineup and trusts the squad. When asked if he knew the selections, Koeman answered simply, “Yes,” adding that lingering doubts would mean he had not done his homework.
Earlier, Koeman had questioned striker Memphis Depay’s readiness after the player missed a recent friendly against Uzbekistan due to a thigh injury. Koeman remarked, “To be honest, I don’t think he is 100 % ready to play.” Depay, however, insisted he is fit, stating, “I train a lot and feel good.” The coach also highlighted broader attacking concerns, noting missed penalties in recent practice games, but affirmed confidence in the team’s quality heading into the tournament.
