Netherlands driver faces court after speeding at 200 km/h
A 35-year-old man, referred to by the pseudonym Robin, appeared in court following a reckless speeding incident on the A16 motorway near Bergschenhoek. On June 4, he was recorded driving at 200 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The judge described the behavior as “reckless,” noting that the incident could have resulted in further fatalities.
This incident follows a previous fatal accident involving the same individual six years ago. During that event, he was driving an upgraded Opel Astra on the A13 motorway between Delft and Rotterdam Airport. Despite warning signs indicating a 50 km/h limit due to a prior accident, he was driving more than three times the speed limit when he encountered a stranded vehicle. At the time of the previous fatal crash, the driver cited personal stress, including a divorce and significant debt, as reasons for his driving behavior.
