Netherlands faces deficit in asylum accommodation places

The municipality of Teylingen in the Netherlands has been allocated 227 asylum‑seeker accommodation places for 2027‑2028, 25 fewer than in previous years. The allocation follows the national Distribution Act, which requires the housing to be cost‑neutral, limited to a maximum of five years and not large‑scale. Of the total, 14 spots are earmarked for unaccompanied minor migrants, and the council plans to present detailed proposals to the local council later this year.

At the same time, the Central Agency for Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) warns that the country will face a shortfall of about 6,000 accommodation places by the end of the summer, underscoring the need for emergency locations and tighter distribution among municipalities.
